Political Indecency…

15th Indian Parliamentary Election has turned out to reprove the linguistic mastery of Indian Political Leaders. Followings are few examples of the words and phrases used by Indian Political Leaders during this election:

Nautankibaaj' (drama king), `Farzi' (imposter), ‘Bhudhiya’ (Aged lady), Opportunist etc

Merchant of death and spells doom for UP, weak PM ought to get a medical check-up,
I will cut that hand etc

Last year only the world witnessed USA election and there too the Political leaders had their say about their opponent Parities and Leaders. But did anyone of us observed usage of abusive language damaging the human dignity? If so do let me know.

However Indian Political Leaders have their reasons for cheap remarks as Mr. Arun Jaitely (BJP) puts up "Some use what is their normal language which for all others may be obnoxious. And some slip on the language in utter excitement." Mr. Abhishek Singhvi (Congress) says “those who could not stand the political heat slipped on language and resorted to abusing political opponents.”

According to the psychiatrists the peer pressure, the fear of defeat in elections and the heat of the battle combined makes politicians slip. Psychiatrist Dr Samir Parekh of Max Hospital feels "Elections are a tense time for politicians. The fear of defeat making them politically fragile is real. Emotional arousal leads to loss of a sense of limit. With peers doing similar things, they too follow suit. However, such hate speeches and foul language hardly helps as society does not like uncivilized behavior."

Yes, Indian Society that looks strong on surface has internally withered like dry leaf witnessing the cheap political displays. Till now only 50% voters turning out to vote portrays passive image of world’s biggest democratic nation.

Let’s wish and pray that tomorrow in the fifth and final phase of election Indian voters instead of absenteeism should come forward to vote.

The Disappointed Voters…

On 13th May 2009 the 15th Indian Parliamentary election will witness its fifth and final phase of voting for 86 seats. Till now 4 phase of voting is over for 457 of the 543 Parliament seats with following voting statistics:

The 1st phase overall voting in 124 constituencies across 15 States and 2 Union Territories was 60 %.
The 2nd phase overall voting in 140 constituencies across 12 States was 55%.
The 3rd phase overall voting in 107 constituencies across 9 States and 2 Union Territories was 50%.
The 4th phase overall voting for 85 constituencies across 8 States was 57%.

In 1947 the literacy rate in India was only 14% and still the voting in 1951 Parliamentary election was 61.2%. As per the 2001 census the literacy rate in India is 64.8% and till now overall voting is 55.5%!

Mumbai the financial capital of India witnessed a mere 41 per cent voting which is considered to be the lowest since 1977. Indian capital Delhi witnessed 50.03 percent polling marks an increase of nearly three per cent over the voters turn out in the last general elections in 2004. And last but not the least the considered most progressive state of India (Gujarat) witnessed only 46% voting!

The political leaders hip hyped publicity through latest technology are failing to appeal the voters to vote.

What could be the reasons for Indian voters passive behavior?
