Jainism has significant event associated with Diwali/Dipawali i.e. attainment of nirvana by Mahavira in 527 BC.
Sikhism has significant event associated with Diwali/Dipawali i.e. Guru Har Gobind Ji (1595-1644) had escaped imprisonment and had reached to the Golden Temple Amristar where he was welcomed happily by the people who lit candles and divas. Therefore Sikhism often refers to Diwali/Dipawali as the day of release of detainees.
Significant of Hinduism to Dipawali is denoted to Rama's return to Ayodhya with his wife Sita and brother Lakshmana after a 14 years exile. Previous to their return Rama had killed Ravana in a war. It is believed that people of Ayodhya lit ghee lamps along the way to light their path in the darkness, therefore Diwali/Dipawali is the Row of Lights/Festival of Lights and holds significance like celebration of the victory of good over evil; the uplifting of spiritual darkness; the awareness of the inner light.
With prayer that you may experience victory over inner and outer evil...
Happy Diwali/Dipawali…GOD bless.
