Gay Guilt...

Thursday 2nd July 2009, the Delhi high court decriminalized private consensual sex between adults of the same sex. The 3rd July Times of India news report says, “India becomes the 127th country to take the guilt out of homosexuality.”

“To take the guilt out of homosexuality”, this phrase can be understood in light of understanding ‘guilt’ i.e. “the fact that you have broken a law of the land.”

Societal point of view above judgment arrives as an encouragement to homosexuals in India and as a warning to Indian society that it should behave. However majority societal response comes as non-verbal disrespect to homosexuals rather than open abusive language or insult, for which even the law of the land can’t do anything.

Individual point of view ‘guilt’ is an affective state in which one experiences cognitive or an emotional conflict having done something that one believes one should not have done. It gives rise to a feeling which does not go away easily, driven by conscience. This is very personal matter and only the individual knows how he feels about the way he is on.

Spiritual point of view ‘guilt’ arises out of individuals conscience because God gave every human being conscience so each one would know when he break His Law; the guilt one feel when he do something wrong that tells him he is in need of forgiveness. This depends on faith and belief system of an individual.

Finally why should a heterosexual abuse a homosexual who does not feel guilty being homosexual? And why should a homosexual blame a heterosexual who does not feel guilty not relating to him? After all every one is free to decide suitable personal lifestyle. Isn’t it?
