15th Indian Parliamentary Election has turned out to reprove the linguistic mastery of Indian Political Leaders. Followings are few examples of the words and phrases used by Indian Political Leaders during this election:
Nautankibaaj' (drama king), `Farzi' (imposter), ‘Bhudhiya’ (Aged lady), Opportunist etc
Merchant of death and spells doom for UP, weak PM ought to get a medical check-up,
I will cut that hand etc
Last year only the world witnessed USA election and there too the Political leaders had their say about their opponent Parities and Leaders. But did anyone of us observed usage of abusive language damaging the human dignity? If so do let me know.
However Indian Political Leaders have their reasons for cheap remarks as Mr. Arun Jaitely (BJP) puts up "Some use what is their normal language which for all others may be obnoxious. And some slip on the language in utter excitement." Mr. Abhishek Singhvi (Congress) says “those who could not stand the political heat slipped on language and resorted to abusing political opponents.”
According to the psychiatrists the peer pressure, the fear of defeat in elections and the heat of the battle combined makes politicians slip. Psychiatrist Dr Samir Parekh of Max Hospital feels "Elections are a tense time for politicians. The fear of defeat making them politically fragile is real. Emotional arousal leads to loss of a sense of limit. With peers doing similar things, they too follow suit. However, such hate speeches and foul language hardly helps as society does not like uncivilized behavior."
Yes, Indian Society that looks strong on surface has internally withered like dry leaf witnessing the cheap political displays. Till now only 50% voters turning out to vote portrays passive image of world’s biggest democratic nation.
Let’s wish and pray that tomorrow in the fifth and final phase of election Indian voters instead of absenteeism should come forward to vote.
